Wiring
I have access to a truck being parted to get the wiring out of for my 62 that i plan on putting a 5.3 that i have but no trans as of yet and i was wondering what all wiring to i need for the conversion? Its going to be a stock drive train and nothing fancy, just a cruiser. The truck i am using had a 6.0 if that matters. Im still new on the newer stuff being swapped. Thanks

I have been talking to Speartech to reconfigure my harness ($450). There are many vendors out there who will do the work. They will rework the harness and computer(PCM) so that you are only left with a 4/5 wire hookup with instructions. LT1Swap provides info to do it yourself (you will still need you PCM reflashed), but I am electrically illiterate so its worth some cash to have it done for me. YMMV. I hate admitting my shortcomings but working 60+ hrs a week, its not something that I want to learn. lol!

The year of the motor and the year of the harness matter (somewhat). The older ones use a cable for the throttle, the newer ones use an electronic throttle. If electronic, you may need the pedal and TAC module (small black box on the firewall) unless its 2007 and newer. The electronic components have to be the same year as the computer and throttle body in order to communicate and work together.
I would grab any wires coneected to the engine trans and accelerator pedal. Even if its not exactly what you need, you may be able to either have it modified, trade it in with a vendor who reworks them or trade it with somone who may need the one you end up with. I guess it all depends on what it costs. |

Sorry i guess i should have said its an '05 with electronic throttle, i forgot about getting the pedal also but will.
Im ok with wiring since i have to quite a bit at work so i would think i could figure it all out by looking at some of the schematics in the FAQ area i found after i posted. Going to try and get all the wiring but we will see, $450 wouldnt be bad if its a plug and play but then still have to have the computer flashed, correct? |

Yes still have to get the computer flashed. The wiring is not as bad as it seems once you get into it. I will be glad to answer any questions that I can, I just got mine going 2 weeks ago and have put around 600 miles on it no probs.

for the cost of getting one reworked, I'd just have a harness made, and sell the stock harness. I paid like $75 more, but got a complete new harness, fuse box, relays etc

All of it is in pretty good shape. Cant be too terribly hard to rewire i would think, just have to know what does what and what you need and dont or am i wrong?
I would like to hide most of what i can and i dont think i will be able to do that if i just have one made. |

Sure you can, doing it yourself is fine, the only tough part can be extending the harness in certain places depending on your configuration, as well as changing things like injector and tranny plugs...again depending on config.
My only point is, if you don't want to do it yourself, just get a new one...the price of having one reworked seems really high to me.

Yeah they want a lot. I got everything but the HVAC portion and dont need it anyways, i evengot the inside and out fuse panels. Im going to have to look around and see what everyone else is doing, i dont have hardly any room under my hood because it is all open so im going to have to figure out what i need and what not to figure out where imm going to put all this crap

Be sure to get the wire that goes from the gas pedal through the firewall to the TAC module.

Got that harness a while back. I screwed up and didnt get it completely finished and getting back on it now and im confused...
Think i messed up and removed a first bank 02 sensor.. trying to back track and make sure before i go any farther but im going nuts lt1swap- doesnt show a harness of an '05 and its hard to see in the pics what i need since its not an up to date harness and i think thats whats throwing me off.. |

I did figure out something that has me confused is that the wiring on lsx swaps schematic is different from the harness that i have for an '05, my pin outs are in different positions and i have fewer wires that they are showing. Maybe im just thinking too hard about it

Ok so now im confused, the wiring schematic that i have from lt1 swap does not come close to the harness that i have, i have fewer wires. I got on alldata and pulled up the harness for an '05 and its showing the same.. the one on the swap does not show a neutral safety switch which this one has one so i am going to have a few more wires to deal with.. What did you guys do on yours?

The schematics are broken down into different segments. The neutral safety diagram wont be in with the PCM schematics, but will show a going.to it if it's relevant. Alot of the wires on the NSS go to the PRNDL on the dash. Are you trying to utilize the neutral safety/ back up light functions of the switch, or are you just trying to figure out what to eliminate?

I rewired mine using http://www.lt1swap.com/ as a guide. I labeled every wire. I extended my wires so that I could mount the computer under the passenger seat. The neutral and reverse wires would be used if you are actually going to use that feature. I am still using the park/neutral switch that is located on the column.

Yeah thats the same thing i used but its slightly different from the harness that i have and that s what im having problems with and it doesnt go into very good detail. I have a hard enough time with wiring as it is and its not that bad except for the cruise and neutral thing
Going to pull up some schematics tomorrow and look it over to see if i can make better sense of the mess i have going |

2003 to 2007 are all pretty much the same, basically if you have a wire that goes from a sensor on the engine to the PCM, you just leave it alone. As for the NSS on the side of the transmission, there's a few wires that do go to the PCM, leave them, and the rest that went to the PRNDL, back up lights, and the starter relay can be eliminated, these will be wires that go to another plug that you probably don't have the other side of anyway. Then you can just run your original starter wire from your ignition switch to your column mounted NSS then to the starter.
