Picked up my first 67 and I have some questions
Hi everyone my name is Bud and I'm a truckaholic. They say the first step is to admit you have a problem! I now own 4.75 of these trucks. I picked up a clean 67 LWB custom yesterday that will be the primary parts donor for my SWB project. My plan is to use a complete 72 front suspension for the PS and disk brakes. I also want to use a 72 rear for the 5 bolt axle flanges. The 67 has a 3.73 posi rear so my question is can I use the posi carrier out of the 67 in the 72 rear? I did search first!

Re: Picked up my first 67 and I have some questions
As long as they are both 12 bolts I would swap the complete carrier with ring gear and posi along with the pinion. It will require being re set up hit would save you $ on partsi would check the ring gear and pinion closely and also be sure the posi was OK before swapping.

Unless you can set up the rear yourself, you might co side inversion axles to switch the 6 lug to 5. That would require a lot less labor. I think they around $300 per pair

Re: Picked up my first 67 and I have some questions
I have done two other 12 bolt rears that are still working fine so I assume this will be pretty much the same. I have the front and rear axles from a 72 and thought it would be better to use them but maybe a narrow rear has advantages like more options for wheel sizes. So I guess i'm looking for pros and cons to one rear or the other?

Re: Picked up my first 67 and I have some questions
Hi Jud,
Yes it was a CL find. I think it only came up if you put in 1967? It is very complete less engine and trans with 59K miles. The PO knew the original owners family. The body and trim is super straight and solid. Would make a nice patina truck but I want to use my 68 short box that has a wood floor. I will take some pictures this Saturday. I'm even getting indoor heated storage until this spring! I'm just finding out the small difference with the 67 models...fun stuff! |

Re: Picked up my first 67 and I have some questions
Hi bud, sounds like a cool truck. I bought my first 67 a few months ago. Owning a few 71s in the past I never knew all the little quirks of a 67 till now. All my interest lately has been 67 only!!!
