Air Conditioning choices

I'm looking for an evaproator and heater combination for my suburban. It needs to have both heat and A/C, work with the dash controls, and be able to keep my glove box. I don't need the compressor and condensor.

I've looked at Classic Auto Air and it looks pretty good. Any alternatives or advice?

I agree. Well made, great quality and well written directions. Vintage Air gen4. Only problem you do some of the glove box, about a 1/4 of it. A new glove box is supplied. Specify what controllers you need. Deluxe or regular.

Re: Air Conditioning choices

Ill agree with Vintage Air.

I have Vintage Air, which works great, but! I like the look of the VA and mine is also 12 years old too, things have changed drastically in the 12 years.

Re: Air Conditioning choices

I do like the looks of the Vintage Air unit. Does anyone know if it is better quality than the Classic Auto Air? Anyone with Classic Auto Air experience?

If I went with Vintage Air, would I need a overhead rear unit to assist since this is a suburban.

Re: Air Conditioning choices

I would suggest you speaking to each vendor and inform them what your putting this into. most burbs of the era prior to say 75, they would put an AC unit under the rear seat.

Isn't the GMC glove box different than the Chevy? Will the insert fit both GMC and Chevy?

I don't want to mount one to the floor since I need to be able to remove the seats for hauling stuff. I only have a 2/3 wide seat in the back and it doesn't have an inch of space under it.

Don't know if the Chevy and gmc are the same in the glove box insert. Duct hoses are why it's smaller. When I ordered my full AC kit it specified 1964-1966 Chevy trucks. So each unit is a semi-custom application. That also includes choices in AC brackets locations of compressor. BBC and SBC.

I would suggest you call vintage air. Discuss what you want and what your looking for. I bet they have a solution for you.

Re: Air Conditioning choices

Do all the aftermarket AC/heating systems use only recirculated air?

Re: Air Conditioning choices

I have just finished installing the unit I have from Old Air Products. I was impressed with the kit. It sacrifices about 3 inches of the back of the glove box, so you still have a good sized glove box. It also uses the stock heater control housing, so there isn't a separate panel for the controls. For the most part the instructions were good, and it wasn't too painful to install.

Re: Air Conditioning choices

What about keeping the original unit. Will they work with modern condensers and coolant?
