Just wondering, non chevy motors?

has any one put a pontiac, buick, olds, cad, or hemi in there truck? if so how about some pics? thanks.

I'm curious about this as well, though I can't off handedly think of any reasons to pick a non-SBC / non-LSx engine. Chevy stuff is just so darn swapable.

Well, GMC put a Pontiac engine in their trucks. and Chevy used a Nailhead Buick in 56-59 school bus chassis.

Yeah, but There are so many of them.I don't even look at them at the shows and cruse nites anymore. But somthing differint gets my attension

It's been done to death. Enough already.
There's a few members here who have 500 Caddy's in their 67-72's.
Performance & dress-up/chrome parts are readily available for them too.

I guess it is good sticking with my 235 since changing out drivetrains with the "corvette" style engine has been done to death. I guess i'm a true old school.

Guys started sticking overhead valve V8 engines in them just about as soon as the engines came readily available. Usually Olds, Cad or Buick nailheads until the Pontiacs and Chevy V8 engines came in 1955.

I had a student with a 390 Ford in a 53 3100 and the frame was so butchered that I was afraid it would break in two on the passenger side. They had cut the top rail away to clear something possibly the oil filter and didn't reinforce the frame.

The owner of the first shop I worked in in Texas had had an AD truck sitting on a 55 Pontiac chassis with Pontiac V8 for a shop truck for a few years before I went to work for him. I never saw it but heard a lot of stories about it. Quite often from guys who had lost a street race to it. My friend an coworker JD Fikes in Waco in the 70's set a 48 Chevy 3/4 ton cab and shortened bed on a 55 Chevy chassis with a 400 Pontiac and turbo 400 in it. He built the whole truck including chopped top and tilt front end in under two months. It ended up in Oklahoma and I saw it for sale in an add in a magazine a few years later.

Back in the 60's you could go to junk yard and pull any engine for $50 except for ones that were obviously special. All had about the same availablilty of rebuild and aftermarket parts. I had a Corvette 327 (paid $65 for the short block, $40 for the heads) in my 57 210. Other friends has a 392 Hemi in a Jeepster, Caddy in a Studebaker PU, nailhead Buick in a 48 Ford, 289 in a 40 Ford, SBC in a 27 Ford Panel, built flathead in a 36 Ford Convertible, 396 in a 63 Impala. Fast forward to today, SBC, BBC and SB Fords have the most aftermarket parts available which makes them cheaper to build and maintain. I enjoy it when something different show up and recognize the financial commitment it usually takes.
