230-250 waterpump lengths

I have totally overlooked one factor in my quest to find a little extra room between the waterpump pully and my radiator (so I can use a puller fan).
Does anyone know if the 230-250 chevy came in diferent pump lengths ( heights ) like the tall or short SBC/BBC ??? If there is a Short version it may be just the trick.

Re: 230-250 waterpump lengths

What I did on mine was dig a shorter pulley off a V8 out of my pulley stash and press the hub on the pump back on the shaft the difference between the 6 cylinder pulley and the V8 pulley. Then I cut the shaft off leaving the stub in front of the hub the same length it was before I pressed the hub back.

I've done the same thing when I put a 235 out of a 56 truck in a 53 truck.

You do need the pump off the engine (it will damage things with it on) and you need access to a press and something to measure the difference between the heights of the pulleys very accurately.

The big rub on the 250 is that there isn't a lot of room for the fan after you do it. I ran an aftermarket flex fan with small blades that doesn't pull enough air at low speeds. I think I might be in the market for an electric fan this go around even though I'm not a big proponent of electric fans except in cases of where nothing else seems to work.
