Speakers in the foot well vents?

I dont really need these vents and thought a speaker would go there. Has anyone done this? I have searched and found nothing.

Also does anyone have kick panel pics where they are covered in carpet? I was planning on gluing some 80-20 loop on the kick panels to match the new carpet.

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

Thanks.
I am not looking to do kick panels like posted. I want to unscrew the vent. Install a closed cell foam speaker cup like this

Flush mount the speaker so the magnet goes inside the vent area. Then cover the entire panel with carpet so it looks stealth and factory.

Those foam speaker cups are cool. Do you happen to have a link to where they can be purchased?

I remember seing someone recently installing speakers in the vents. It may have been in one of the build threads.

Hey Cap't try googling boom mat, they are an audio supplier.

I agree, those are too cool! I'd use them as the OP wants too, just make sure to seal them good around the edges to avoid any possible moisture.

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

Amazon.com sells them for $10/pr.
The part number for the 6 X 9 is DEI 050381.

They also showed a 3 pr set for around $25 had 2 -6 X 9, 2,- 5 1/2" and 2.- 6" round.

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

Sweet, ill take a measurement and see what size speaker would fit, prob a 4x6, but I'd like to get a 6.5" up front and 1 sub behind the seat.

Any link to the build tread? I'd love to pics.

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

I removed the whole unit, took the door out and then cut a piece of plexi-glass and sealed it, then cut my hole for my speaker and bolted the unit back in. I drilled a hole at the bottom or top (I can't remember) and ran my speaker wire out that way and then had a Rod Doors (who are not gone) kit for the truck. 10" sub behind the seat. It works ok, sounds better when the seat is forward...

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

I was just being lazy last night

I just thought I'd see where the OP saw them.

I recognized the DEI, so I did a search on Summit, and they have them also. But they are $12.00 a pr.

Thanks for the info.

Re: Speakers in the foot well vents?

I took a measurement and it is 5.5" x9" on the inside, it seems like a 6x9 can fit up there with a wooden spacer. I am not going for a SQ build like most of my cars, this is a loud mean truck that i just want to hear the music so 6x9 may give me the mid bass and highs I need, and 1 10 in the rear will be fine for some thump to the sound. I figure $500 should cover the whole system.
