Atypical exhaust question.
I've heard and used several brands of exhaust; Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster, etc.
All of these have decent tone, don't get me wrong, but I read soemthing a few years ago that has stuck with me. There was a man who had a '68 Camaro - really nice blue paintjob, 468 BBC, mean little Pro-Touring car - but he used a high-quality (can't recall brand) set of mufflers designed for... the import tuner market. Go figure. Allegedly, it had a rather unique exhaust note that didn't sound like 'just' a BBC. I've never heard a domestic engine through a set of mufflers like that, but given the words 'exotic' and 'european' seem to come to mind when the writer described it, it stuck with me that it could be something interesting and different to try. Has anyone ever heard of someone doing a similar set-up, or more importantly, has anyone actually heard the exhaust from a vehicle someone has done this to? Color me thinking outside the box...

Re: Atypical exhaust question.
I am always on the lookout for racing beat stainless mufflers and presilencers (center mufflers) because they are hands down the best sounding system on anything you put them on. I want to say its made by bosal but I dont think that is right, something with a b.
I put a 350z stock (calsonic) exhaust on my 535is because I was next to one and I couldnt believe the sounds coming out the stock exhaust, sounded very ferrari-esque and sounded just as nice on my inline 6. I liked that so much I bought another 350z setup for my 65, but only got the center resonator on with a flowmaster first and now a smithys rear muffler I say do it. most exhausts that people say "sound good/aggressive/mean/whatever" sound like a rhino farting in a metal trash can or someone burping in a mens room to me.

Re: Atypical exhaust question.
I did something like this about 8 yrs ago.. had a buddy that was an import tuner that bought an "tuner exhaust" for his mitsu mirage and the company sent the wrong one. They sent the right one and never asked for the old one back. It was at least 6-7 in in diameter about 8in long. I welded it up on my 89 Cheyenne with a 350 and it sounded good. it surprised everyone except me.
Most of the tuner style exhaust is usually a glass pack /resonator /straight through style with or without a resonating tip.

Re: Atypical exhaust question.
Thanks for all the replies!
I definately going to be looking into some exhaust that is different from my past use. Borla looks like they have come a ways in exhaust design, which is refreshing, but I'd never have imagined stock 350z mufflers. Looks like I'm gonna have to go find some more videos of these cars and hunt down the 'perfect' sound. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Atypical exhaust question.
Being as I'm an Armada owner, have been inspired to try 20" Titan wheels on my '66 (saw then on a forum members truck) - I figure 350z/370z mufflers would be kinda interesting as well.
I'll try anything once. That's what she said. Posted via Mobile Device

rumor is that ferrari had a hand in developing the sound of the 350z car exhaust, which is different than the inifinti version of the same car. I've never paid much, one set was 20 bucks but a friend shipped from new york so 26 bucks, got the cats with that setup so it paid for itself. The next set I got from a kid in town with a brand new car who just wanted it gone, 25 bucks on craigslist. If you get sets with the midpipe silencer, let me know! I dont know if its bassani, but it might be. Someone told me once but the racing beat versions have the special resonated tips, and sound incredible. I got an Ansa on ebay once for .99 cents, thats another of my favorite but really made for a higher strung (high rpm) motor than our trucks.

Re: Atypical exhaust question.
Lets hear some different exhaust setups on your 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups:
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=526454 Exhaust Sound - The smaller the Muffler HOUSING (Height & Width) the greater the exhaust sound. The larger HOUSINGS emit quieter exhaust notes. Re: Atypical exhaust question.
I'm with you on wanting a different sound that the typical hopped up American V8 sound!
I'm shooting for something like this on my '66 C10. The BMW M3 V8 rev to 8400 stock and sounds amazing that high up, and the individual runner intake and separate throttle bodies with velocity stacks adds to the sound as well. The builders say it's their own custom 3" exhaust with two X pipes. It looks like they build their own mufflers/resonators too. I'll eventually build a destroked LS2 with an IR intake and four two barrel Dellorto carbs and the valve train and bottom end built to handle 8500 rpm to replicate that beautiful music, but until then I've got these vids to hold me over!
