Ever heard of Ziebart??

So I dragged home a nice 1969 K20 yesterday, but that's another thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=1#post5699304

It had funny little plugs in different places and these stickers on the back window.
My dad said it was some kind of rust protection. Anybody have any info??

The rust protection seemed to work great on the top half of the cab, but not so great on the bottom half, but then again this may be a cab from up north.

back in the day that was the sh-t. Was the very best you could buy sprayed inside panels and doors, every where there were 2 panels they put it. Then very liberial application to single panels. No reapplication needed.

It was a franchise back in the 70's. They sprayed that Goo in hard to reach areas susceptible to rust. It worked for a while... By the end of the 70's the automotive industry started using different composites material to streamline rust. Put the ziebart guys out of business. On another note, the best window tint jobs came from a zeibart shop. Mine lasted seven years without a bubble! That was good for Florida!

It was big up here in Canada up until 10 or so years ago. havent heard anything about them since.

was big where I grew up in NW Indiana. Could be done by the dealer (i.e. the dealer sent it to Ziebart before you picked it up) or you could go there after you bought a new car, etc. Still cont convinced how well it worked, every car my family had it done to still rusted, ha! But then again, EVERYthing rusted in NW Indiana back in the day. I think it's cool ya still got the sticker!

In IL about maybe 15yrs ago or so I had my Mustang undercarriage done by them. Still did a hell of a job in my book.

there were other companys that did the same thing my camaro is a rusty jones car and for spending its entire life here in pa. within a 20mi radius I must say it worked very very well

My 69 Wrecker was Ziebarted. Saved the cab, fenders, doors, etc.

yep. they are everywhere.


Well it seemed to save the top half of the cab, but its going to need rockers and some floor brace work.

Back before galvanized sheet metal and dipped assemblies it was a good deal. Now if you drill a hole to spray in ziebart you might void the manufacturer's warranty. I know back in 1994 when I bought my first new car they put me in front of the cute sales lady who put the full court press on me getting the treatment from them. I said no. Modern cars don't need it. 1972 Chevy trucks do - the don't have ANY paint or protection between body panels anywhere. Thats why all our rockers have holes in them.

Split open a factory bedside once if you don't believe me. Except for you desert guys. You have no idea what we're talking about.

Those guys are still around here. Wouldn't pay a fifth of a nickle for any thing they do. Years ago it was Rusty Jones. They sucked too. Every vehicle that had it rusted out faster. The coating with harden up. Then after a while a chip would appear. Then it would allow water and road salt to enter and it was all over. Every frame I saw that had it had a life limit. If used everyday it only lasted about 15 years then it rotted to the point of failure.

I bought a new Chevy truck in 1980 and had the dealer get it Zie-Barted.
Then,I bought a new 1982 Chevy truck.It was Zie-Barted too.
And,my 68 anniversary is Zie-Barted(by the 1st/previous owner).I've had a real hard time getting the stuff off the body panels!In the picture,there's still some on the bottom of the hood in the upper left corner.Obviously it's good stuff-there's no rust!
