Brake/ proportion valve question

I have searched and can't really find a answer

I have a 66 c-10 with stock brakes. I replaced the stock crossmember with a sectioned one and messed up some brakes lines so decided just to up grade to the 67 dual chamber master cylinder. I want to run all the lines since I have the motor out. My question is I know right now I do not need a proportion valve but down the road I want to install drop spindles with disk non power brakes and I will need a valve. I would like to just install a valve now since I have room to work in there with motor out. Questions I have now are is it safe to run the valve with drum/drum brakes and if so witch one I need?

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

I dont know if its safe, but its not needed until you put disk brakes on the front. I have seen distribution blocks on drum/drum, but I dont know that Ive ever seen a proportioning valve on a drum/drum truck. They are not that hard to install...I would hold off until you hav edone the front end conversion.

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

You could intall a proportioning valve and leave it all the way open...

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

do not install a prop valve or distr block with a stock 67 dual res master cyl that you've used to upgrade you 66 with. That master cylinder has built in proportioning for a drum/drum system. It's a great swap but prop valve not to be used for just that swap. Once you go disk/drum or disk/disk - a prop valve will be necessary.

here's a thread with some more details: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=332148 (chief rocka's great thread) and http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=487384 (i did exactlywhat you did in my old 66, here's the thread)

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

So when I do change to disk I will need to change the mc to a disk/drum and a proportion valve or just a valve

Re: Brake/ proportion valve question

You will need to change to a disc/drum master cylinder and add a disc/drum proportioning valve.
