New wheels today!! Have a question....

I picked up some new (to me) wheels today! Found a set of 6 lug aluminum slots. Tires are garbage, but these are my all time favorite wheels!!! Had to drive a couple hours each way to get them. Haven't touched them yet, but I think they will clean up really nice.

I put them up to the truck and found that my old lug nuts won't work. The part that seats up against the hub (flange?) is much thicker (1") and the lug holes are about 5/8" and are much bigger than the ones on my old set. It seems that the lug nuts will need some sort of shank on them. Can anyone advise the correct way to determine what lug nuts I will need????

Here are the pics:

Re: New wheels today!! Have a question....

Those take "Mag wheel" lug nuts that have a a shank that goes down inside the the holes around the lug bolts and have a washer under the head of the nut and the wheel.

Similar to the ones on this page but you have to find the correct ones and they can't be too long in the shank or they won't tighten the wheel up.

or http://www.4wheelparts.com/Wheels/Tr...3679&t_pl=4266

You also have to figure out which washers you need.

Considerations are the size of the lug bolts, the diameter of the holes in the wheels and the thickness of the wheels where the lug bolt holes are. You might still find them at some tires stores or some parts houses that had a speed section. When I worked at Bowdens Auto parts in the late 80's we had bulk lug bolts like that a thousand to a box.

Thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know. It's what I was thinking, but needed to verify before I go and order anything. I appreciate your help.

Those are going to look cool. They are definately making a comeback. I like them with a pinner or thin white stripe tire.

Re: New wheels today!! Have a question....

As I said above, Just make sure you don't get lug nuts with the shanks that are too long. I ran into one or two of those with wheel wobble when I was working in the tire shops. Guys bought a set of wheels and picked up a set of lug nuts and the nuts bottomed out on the drum before they got the wheels tight.

Make sure that any rivets on the face of the drum don't keep the wheel from seating flat on the face of the drum too.

Re: New wheels today!! Have a question....

Since the flange is one inch, would 3/4" long shanks be about right?

There is a guy on another forum that will polish ANYTHING. His prices are cheaper than anyone around. Search for IPOLI**** his name is Andy lives in Ohio. Contact him at
Valvecovers@live.com

He might be able to help you out with polishing the slots. They look nice btw.
