Installing big block in a 64 k30 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looks like I have to slightly modify the firewall in order to do this conversion. Does anyone have any pictures or thoughts on how to do this and make it look somewhat normal? Its a 454 with nv4500 transmission conversion. I have a front crossmember/engine mount out of a 67 4x4. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

here is one going into a 65 2 wheel (eng mounts in the same place). he didn't have to modify the firewall. you may have to just slide that c/member forward a hair. just put it in place and see what it looks like. that cross member rests on the inside of the frame so should support it without bolting it up for that

We modified the firewall for valve cover (tall) clearance in our 2wd 66. Large cap HEI still had plenty of room. Most people don't notice it, seems obvious to us though

I modified the fire wall just a little bit.

I would just slide the engine forward a couple inches, and not have to modify the firewall. You will have to run the short water pump if you do. That is what I did with my '66 Suburban.

I second that. Since you aren't running a stock 4-speed with the bellhousing crossmember it should be easy for you to just slide the whole thing forward.

Rocktonka....what wire looms did you use to route the wires down the valve covers. They give it a very clean look.

I forget the brand, but you can get a feel for the look in the pics. These were designed to be mounted in a horizontal orientation off of the outer valve cover bolts...wasn't possible with the valve covers we liked. We flattened the mounting tabs and made some adapters that allowed them to sit vertically on the opposite side they were designed for.

Those look like the R&M Specialties wire looms. I've used them several times. Good quality and good people to deal with. You can also buy them at Summit.
