47 frame, axle and leaf spring widths
Anyone know what the frame width, front and rear axle widths and the leaf spring perch to perch widths are?
Also are the frames on these trucks the same width all the way down? I have found 36" for a width. Just wanted to know if thats the same front and rear? I have not picked up my new truck yet so I cant go take these measurements myself so I was wondering if anyone already had some on hand. |

Re: 47 frame, axle and leaf spring widths
The 47/54 half ton trucks have frames that taper front to back running about 28 inches at the front I believe 28-1/2 at the front axle and 46-1/32 at the rear axle. The 3600 had a frame width of 36 inches straight back after it stopped tapering under the cab.
Scroll down to Frame 76 on this pfd. http://www.gmheritagecenter.com/gm-h...olet-Truck.pdf I just found this this morning and it is a keeper for every one of us with an AD truck. It's for the 48 but there may be similar GM Heritage info for other years. Looking at it some more, it answers a ton of regularly asked questions, How wide, tread width, weight, wheelbase and all of those little details that guys are always hunting for. The 47/53 Assembly manual that you can buy from various sources has detailed drawings of the frames and all other parts of the trucks. Like this pfd they include all models of the truck so you have to sort though it to find what you want.

Re: 47 frame, axle and leaf spring widths
My truck is a 1 ton truck. So it will still have the 28.5" front. Thats awfully skinny! Do you know what the actual axle width itself is?

I did find out that the info on the GM Heritage link is the same info you find on oldcarmanualproject.com but all on one pfd.

I can look up and maybe scan the info when I get home this evening out of the assembly manual but that won't be until after 7 my time.

Oh THATS what the tread width meant. I was trying to read that on my phone before I got back to my computer and it wasnt quite making sense.
