Manual tranny swap
Finally got around to dropping in my Muncie tranny after two years of talking about it. To get the hole in the tranny mount to line up with the hole in the crossmember, I had to disconnect the motor mounts from the frame and move them back. At lest the tranny is in and the driveshaft is hooked up. Anyone run into this problem before? May need to drill new holes in the frame and engine crossmember to get everything buttoned down.
Thanks, Mike Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Manual tranny swap
Not that there is a wrong way, if youre building it custom to your liking. Typically though, you leave the engine placement the same, and move the transmission crossmember, then shorten/lengthen the driveshaft.
Moving your motor rearward isnt a bad thing, if everything clears, you just took the less traveled route. |

Re: Manual tranny swap
There are usually different holes in the frame for different transmission options.

Re: Manual tranny swap
Should be exactly 1/4" bell housing to mount difference between the TH200 (20 1/8") and the TH350 (20 3/8"). This is what I was off. My truck was originally a 6 banger with a TH350

Re: Manual tranny swap
Pirate, have you drilled your front crossmember already? If you only have 1/4 inch difference, that isnt going to put much distance between your old and new motor mount holes. I'd be alittle concerned with swiss cheesing it up too much.
Probably will be fine, Im just anal like that. Also, its cool you finally got it installed. Granted I just joined, but awhile back I was searching about putting a muincie in mine, and came across your older threads. |

Re: Manual tranny swap
Usually folk bolt the crossmember to transmission and drill holes in the frame to bolt it in its new spot. Make sure the dist cap is good for clearance and it shouldn't matter. How much trouble was it installing the linkage and pedals? Love the vintage valve covers btw.
