vent window seal question
Any one know how to determine the year that the doors or vent windows were made. I see on some websites that there are three different Seal style for different year Trucks.
73-80 81-85 85-91 my passenger door window motor burned up and the motor is from a 70's door. I am assuming that the door was replaced at some point. I am not sure about the driver side yet. I am hoping to find out a way before pulling the vent windows as this is my daily driver.

Re: vent window seal question
Lmc only shows two vent window seals 73-80 and 81-87. 85-91 had 2 instead of 3 mounting points in the door jam above the door hinge for the whole vent window assembly. One way to possably try to identify the difference in the seal is that 73-80 had thicker glass than 81-87. Also I think the latch on the 73-80 didnt have a locking button option but not sure.

Thanks!

Re: vent window seal question
LMC's catalogue is incorrect with the listing of 1 piece seals from 81-87. I found out the hard way. 81-84 had 2 piece seals. Your best bet is to roll the window down and gently pull the window track felt out of the back of the vent window frame. If you see a couple of bent metal tabs then you have a 2 piece seal. If the latches have (had) locks on them then I would say you need these seals (81 and up) :

73-80 - 2 Piece Style 81-85 - 2 Piece Style 85-87(91) 1 piece style The above post is correct in how to identify which 2 piece version you have. The 81-85 has tabs that insert into the division post and fold over, so removing the glassrun on the division bar (where the door glass rolls up) will expose these tabs (81-85) or rivet heads (73-80). There's so little tolerance in these weatherstrips so they can not be interchanged without problems arising.

Re: vent window seal question
hmm, maybe thats been my issue all along. I think my vent windows are stock 84-85 cucv ones, since my doors came from a cucv. I have 1piece seals in them since my truck is an 88. might have to try a different set.

Re: vent window seal question
Precision Parts, From your website, I have 3 Items that I would like to purchase, but would like your opinion if you think they are correct for my year truck.
I have : Door Weatherstrip Seal fits 1973-1987 Chevy Truck (DWP 1110 73) Glass Run Channel Weatherstrip fits 1981-1987 Chevy Truck, 1981-1991 Blazer, Suburban (GRR 1110 81) Vent Weatherstrip Seal Kit fits 1981-1985 Chevy Truck, 1981-1985 Blazer & Suburban (VWK 1110 81 A) Mine have the Tabs, so these are correct for my truck even though mine is an 86?

Re: vent window seal question
So it sounds like from what I'm reading that a 1 piece seal cannot be used in place of a 2 piece seal?
I was getting ready to put mine back together, but I think I may have the wrong part. I removed the vent window I am using from a 1989 Suburban. It is the 2 piece type with the tabs. Posted via Mobile Device |

Some people do make them work, whether they are using a lot of weatherstrip adhesive or urethane...I'm not sure. The bottom line is that most people encounter problems, wind noise, leakage etc. Get the correct ones.
