1988 3+3 with 454 TBI & 4 Speed Man.

Those are the bare essentials of a truck I'm looking at, but I wanted to get some opinions about these big bruisers. I know my dad had one for years, so there's some nostalgia complicating the decision. However, with these trucks are they pretty much just for those with a purpose in mind like heavy hauling or towing? Just curious as I've been wanting a pickup and didn't know if a 3+3 would be a good investment since I don't have regular heavy duty needs.

Anything is possible, you can get a nice built engine and haul some a@#. Those 454s are pretty undertuned. For all around purpose if you need to haul alot of people and have the space to fit that rig it's not a bad investment. If you don't mind me asking how much is the guy asking?

$1500... but I can't tell from any of the pics how rusty she is. However, I do know my Burb is in excellent shape for its year and the interior of the 3+3 make my Burb look like junk. So if the outside condition is anything similar to the interior it should be pretty good. The body looks to be in pretty good shape though, I'm going to see if my ole man and I could go have a look at it.

A dually like that is a real workhorse when needed. Not exactly economical for daily driver duty though. They do look good lowered.

That's why I have arranged to go have a look at it, sometimes it's just good to have a truck that can handle darn near anything.

Personally for 1.5k you can't go wrong; as long as its in decent mechanical shape. If you do get it post it up in the square side of this place.

I actually thought about posting it here and with the squares as this side will have people who deal with the TBI motors (I needed all the help I can get) and in the square side I don't think I really need to say why it'll be there lol.

But I do know that if it's in good enough shape and I get it, I'll have to boggard the keys to it as my ol man absolutely loves those old 3+3's. Hahaha

I've got an 88 model 454 4 speed truck for hauling. Mine has 4.56 gears. It will literally pull a church off the foundation but the fuel economy does hurt pretty bad. Be forewarned, these trucks aren't meant to run around town in unless you need the pulling power or you're gonna wind up a poor man.

That's a pretty sharp looking flatbed Tx, reminds me of my dads old flatbed... only your's looks to be about a 1000lbs lighter. His was a 3+3 flatbed with 1/4" steel all the way around the flatbed.

But I fully understand the matter of fuel mileage, that's why the Burb will be the "fuel saver" and the 3+ will be the heavy hauler.

Well, it turns out that the truck was an amazing steal and worth a lot more than was being asked for it. However, money talks and everything else walks and someone else got the money together faster than I did. No problem though, what will be will be and there will be other trucks.
