Driving in the rain sucks!

I really hate driving my truck in the rain, constantly turning the wipers on and off is a pain. I know there are aftermarket delay switches out there but I am thinking of mounting a floor switch I can hit when a wipe is needed. I saw someone on here had done something like this but I can't find it. I really only need to know which wire controls the high speed. Anyone know how to wire something like this?

Re: Driving in the rain sucks!

From memory of the few occasions I drove my friends the UK MK3 Ford Cortina had a floor mounted switch, inside section did the washer and the outer gave it a wipe.

That would be cool. I honestly would rather have a floor mount switch than delays. I drove around feeling with my foot for a location and found that tapping my foot on a switch wouldnt be a bother at all. I think I would mount it right above the dimmer, I have fairly longs legs so my foot seems to rest there most the time.

Move to Washington, you'll never have to turn your wipers off again.

I've never tried the stuff, does it REALLY work so well you don't need wipers? Does it work the same with snow?

I used it once a long time ago. Followed directions but maybe I did something wrong anyway. Water beaded up & blew off OK but I still needed wipers. The problem I had was mainly at night.... it was like some sort of film on the glass, and glare from oncoming headlights was very very bad. I scrubbed & cleaned and nothing would get rid of it -- eventually it just wore off. I still have a partial bottle that I doubt I'll ever use.

Re: Driving in the rain sucks!

Funny, I've thought about this same thing, only I'm considering hooking up my wipers to the hi-beam switch. I'll just leave my lights on bright, since we can't even compete with all the newer cars as far as bright lights go, anyways

Re: Driving in the rain sucks!

Just rework a dimmer switch and remove the latch to make it a momentary and tap into the low side wiper circuit. Might have a return to park issue though.

I wax my windshields, works great. I use my wipers about 1/4 the time I used to.

I use rainx ALL the time. It works great on both rain and snow.
It does leave a film when first applied. This is something I've dealt with since I first tried it 20+ years ago. However I feel the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.

I get far less of the film if I wipe it on with one paper towel then get a fresh one to wipe it off. In my experience the film is gone with the next car wash while it's protection continues for 2-3 months.

At times I get a little aggravated when I'm stuck behind the guy with the crappy wipers going full blast, driving slow while I got my wipers off and can see fine through the rainx.

I have not used it on our trucks, but on our car with more of a "rake" to the windsheild, it works fabulously. The rain beads off so easily I never had to use the wipers. And at night it was even better. Can't comment on the snow.
