anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

I am looking at swapping out my automatic transmission for a 5 speed and was wondering if anyone has ever done that. Mainly need to know what all is involved with the clutch pedal swap. The rest i know pretty well. the truck i am planning to do this in is an 84 short box fleetside.

Done this a few times. It is pretty straight-forward. The mechanical and hydraulic pedal kits are different.

Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

Just did it in my 85. Im going with hydraulic so i had to drill and cut some holes. Have an extra set of hands with you or you might start throwing things...

Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

i am planning to use a hydraulic assembly from a local junkyard. plan is to get it all working and then replace the both the slave and the master cylinder. also planning to use either a 5 speed from a 4.3 litre s-10 or find one out of a camaro. main thing is that it has to stand up to some abuse from a 400ish horse small block. Clutch will be custom built from a local shop.

Oh, the donor is a 4 wheel drive with a 4.3 and a 4 spd., but i don't plan on using the 4spd.

Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

im pushin the same hp out of my motor. Had a clutch made up from a local place that is good up to 500hp. He told me i might run into issues with the stock hydrualics and should look into upgrading but for right now im mounting everything just to get everything right. The cool things is there are notches and divets every where on the firewall where you need to cut so there is no measuring.

Question Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

Wait a second here.... I have seen the clutch pedal assembly. you have to take your original brake pedal assembly out just to fit the other one? did any of you keep original brake pedal and put in the clutch pedal?

I changed the whole deal. It's a bit of a pain. The column needs to be dropped way down and there are nuts way up under the dash that you need a long extension and universal socket to get to. And, they're lock nuts so they don't spin right off.

Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

the foot part of the brake pedal is too large or wide to put in an additional standard clutch pedal... Ive done the swap from a 76 cab pedal assembly and put it in a1981 it was a bit of a pain but doable

the bracket they swing on has to be changed as well, its different. not bad, but easier with the steering column out.

Re: anyone ever swap in a clutch pedal in an automatic truck?

So from what everyone has said it is kind of a pain, but not impossible. sounds like I'll be doing it. will have to make sure and keep everyone updated.
