It is unbeleivable how quickly a garage buget can get out of hand. I put up a (36 x 80) with 12 foot ceilings OSB board for walls and fully insulated and a concrete floor. I quite counting at $35,000.00 But I got to admit, I love it. I have a lift and a pit and the last 15 years of toys(I mean tools)LOL I do have a divider wall so I can heat the front 36 x 40 area and the other 36 x 40 area is for general storage. I got the fridge,stereo,tv,microwave in there too. A man and his garage. One last thing, they never seem to be big enough.

OK... I'm left with my tongue hanging out of my mouth..... I have convinced my wife that i need (need?) a shop, the problem being is we have to move to get enough room to build one, now that's going to be expensive....fortunate enough to have a garage now but it's much too small.

Put a VCR or DVD player in line with it.....tape things for later.....

Blue Beard...consider using white pole barn siding on the inside. No taping, sanding, painting. And the best part is when you wash the trucks inside, you don't have to keep the walls dry!! I've got it in my barn, and it's great! Bright, clean, and maintainence free!! Mines 35x58..16ft sides. 2 12x14 doors. Indirect tube heat, 100amp-240volt, running water, floor drain, roughed in for toilet, sink, and shower. Built into a hillside with 10ft high poured walls, then metal above. Sitting at $55,000 now with more to go!

Being self employed, and parking my semi truck inside makes it a business expense.

No matter how big you build a shop it will end up too small. I built a 36x60 with 12' walls and a 36x16 loft and it is jammed up full. Don't get me wrong I love it.

I should mention that although I love the garage, how I ended up getting the new one was a painful experience. A couple years ago ( the second week of January) we had been having some pretty decent rain and snow storms and then all of that weight callasped the roof and three of the walls of the old one.
My 69 camaro that I had owned for 10 years was flattened like a pancake. I mean every body panel was destroyed. My 69 C10 cab was FUBR. It was a total mess trying to figure out where to put all of our stuff tools.mowers,extra furniture etc. and on top of that it is the second week of January.
But I did have insurance on the vehicles and on my builing so that helped out alot. It sure sucked tho.

We are just completing our house with one 3 car garage on it...it is designed to have a matching 3 car on the opposite end of the house...kind of U shaped when it is all there. My wife is thinking of letting me build the other garage pretty quick...with interest rates being so low. It will have 6" thick floors and a ceiling that follows the 10:12 pitch roof...so a lift will be cake. The garage is extra deep and extra wide with 10' walls. All brick and insulated! I can't wait.
