Transfer case pattern instructions

Does anyone know if the 4 x 4's always had transfer case shift pattern instructions on the glove box? Was that specific to any of the 67 to 72 years? I have a 68 and a 70 Suburban.

Thanks

Re: Transfer case pattern instructions

My '72 has no such instructions on the glove box.... but the shift pattern is imprinted on the TC shifter knob.

Re: Transfer case pattern instructions

Are you wondering what T-case you have?

Thank you, My shift knobs are plain without a pattern. Hate to sound bad but I do not know what tc's I have. They are both 3/4 ton and as far as I know the tc's are original. The shift pattern on the 68 is different than on the 70. Cannot recall which is which but I can look.

Is there a simple way to tell what tc is by looking at it from a creeper?

Re: Transfer case pattern instructions

Look at the back of the tcase. If it has an external bearing cover above the output yolk its a 221. Its almost as if they put the cover on as an afterthought. Has about a 1inch diameter nipple sticking out of the center of it. The shift pattern on a 221 is from the firewall, toward the seat, 2h 4h N 4Lo.

Take a photo of the back of your transfer case and post it here. We can ID them for you with ease and will teach you the identification markers as well.

Re: Transfer case pattern instructions

The original case for a '68 would be the Rockwell 221 while the '70 would be a NP 205. Assuming they are original, but with your explanation that shift patterns were different, that seems to be the case.

Re: Transfer case pattern instructions

My 67 had the transfer case shift pattern sticker on the ceiling just above the mirror bracket.
