Ordered my drop spindles, what 6 lug rotors?

Ordered my cpp spindles from Summit and they didn't have rotors. What rotor do I ask for to maybe try the local parts stores? What years and should it be 2 wheel drive or 4x4? Matter of fact I'll need calipers also so here again, what year and application for them? I already did talk to one of the local stores and he said he has no listing for 6 lug rotors for 73 through 87. Is he wrong?

No he is not wrong.
You need HD spindles for 1-1/4" wide rotors.
I used these aftermarket 6-lug rotors:
http://www.performanceonline.com/che...ersion-rotors/
They are just blank 5-lug rotors drilled to the 6-lug pattern.
I used '73 calipers, pads, and bearings, since most parts stores have these in stock.
I also used conversion brake hoses for ease of installation.
I got mine from Early Classic Enterprises,... but Performance Online should be able to help you also.

71-72 hoses will work, but will require a inverted flare adapter on one side.

Lolife99,

Great write up! My question is, what if you are running original 6-bolt steelies? Won't they rub on the calipers?

Pre-'71 steelies will rub.
I hear some get by using a small spacer.
The best answer is to buy a pair of 71-87 4x4 (6-lug) steel wheels.
They will clear the disc brake caliper.

No telling how many of these steel wheels have been scrapped or destroyed.
But they are seeing a huge popularity spike recently.
I try to buy them when I see them.

Here's a complete set for sale here on the board.

And the rear wheels are the "kinda rare" 15x8 steelies!

Re: Ordered my drop spindles, what 6 lug rotors?

Some of the disc brake lits are using '88-'95 C2500 HD 2wd front rotors. They are 6 lug 5 1/2" BC and fit a traditional style spindle.

Ask Capt'n Fab he has about all the combinations figured out! LOL!

The 88-up rotors fit 88-98 spindles which require you to switch to 67-72 3/4-ton lower a-arms, and 88-98 upper and lower ball joints, and outer tie rod ends.
I still say this is not a cost effective way to get 6-lug rotors up front,... especially if you want drop spindles.
(just my opinion)

Re: Ordered my drop spindles, what 6 lug rotors?

The thing I don't like about using the '73-'87 style spindles with the aftermarket 6 lug rotors, is if you need rotors again, you are stuck buying more aftermarket rotors. Those are more expensive than replacement OEM rotors and you will also have to wait for them to be shipped. My opinion as well
