Re: Lets see those mis-matched trucks! and your excuses

Right here buddy! And my excuse? Well, it was cheaper to replace all the rusted-to-death parts on the original incarnation of this truck that I bought. I bought the original incarnation truck for $500 and stripped off all the rusted up parts to replace with these cheaply-priced second hand OEM replacement parts. No cheap-quality reproduction junk for my truck (except for gas tank!). So the skeleton of the original truck is still here (cab, frame, axles, transmission) but that is ALL that is left of the original incarnation. The truck is titled and registered as the original incarnation even though percentage-wise very little of it is left. I invested a total of $650-$700 for all this SOLID sheet metal which gave me an equally solid stepside shortbed truck for not a lot of money. And what is my excuse for not painting it yet? Well, every time I have made plans to have it painted some terrible mechanical meltdown happens to the truck. The first time the motor was burned up by a jackass mechanic who drove it 60 miles with a DEFECTIVE oil pump and destroyed my newly rebuilt inline 6 motor. The second time the replacement secondhand inline 6 motor started leaking fluids from odd places, so that ended it. Then as I began my third attempt the 700R4 transmission went out (towing a trailer). So now I am just sitting back and enjoying my new 350 motor and rebuilt (original) 350 turbo transmission. I fear that if I make painting plans now, those destructive gremlins will hear of it again and sabotage my truck for me!

Re: Lets see those mis-matched trucks! and your excuses

Woot! It was a running primer black shortbed, then my friend somehow got an idea that he was just gonna scrap an almost rust free cab, to get it out of the way, which led to my reply of "no". So we blew it apart, and assembled it into this one weekend. Kicking about the idea of just a sinister looking gloss black, or factory two tone bronze and white. Go fast parts have been priority, and its kind of growing on me. Atleast it wont be mistaken for another.

Re: Lets see those mis-matched trucks! and your excuses

This is my neighbors truck affectionately known as Gumbo. It started off as an 84 lwb fleetside with a bent frame and transformed into a swb stepside. I had a 74 swb fleetside with a bad cab that I donated for the cause. So now the truck is made up of...

74 frame
84 cab, clip, rear end.
85 grill, motor(305)
87 stepside bed(swapped even for swb fleetside bed)
93 tranny(700r4)

Best I could do. I wanted a fuel door instead of the cap on the fender.

Re: Lets see those mis-matched trucks! and your excuses

This was mine a few years back. Parts from 4 different trucks. LB to SB, only difference now is the bodywork is mostly done and it's in primer. I kinda miss this look.
