Original engine?
Hi guys,
Out of curiosity how do I find out if the engine in my truck is the original engine? I have attached 2 pictures. Truck is a 1972 Chevy C20.

Re: Original engine?
Get the numbers and letters off the block. See the highlighted area in your pic below... You can go to a couple different websites that will help you de-code it.

Re: Original engine?
To pin point it you'll also need the casting number (rear deck drivers side) and the date code (rear deck passengers side just below the distributer.

Re: Original engine?
The only way to tell is if you have the protecto plate or build sheet.

Re: Original engine?
Have you ever seen an engine build code written in on a build sheet? All I can remember seeing is the typed RPO and the suffix code like this box 11 example.
