Oil in water or is it the stop leak I used?
A week ago I took a little trip in my truck, after about 100 miles I stopped and after ten minutes noticed my radiator started leaking so bought some stop leak crap to get it to stop, it did and I went on my way. Yesterday I decided to flush it out and refill with new antifreeze and found the water was milky. I checked my oil and it was still clean and full. Could it be the stop leak that turned my water milky? The coolant all leaked out while I walked to the nearest parts store so refilled it with water then added the stop leak, I can't remember what brand it was but I remember it was black and chunky! The engine never got hot, the leak didn't start until I shut off the engine. Any idea if the stop leak could be what made my water milky? I flushed it out several times last night and added new antifreeze and so far it's still green.

Maybe the "good flush-out" removed what little leakage/cross contamination you still had in the system. If there are no furthur signs of this milky substance then I think you're good to go.

It's been decades since I saw stop-leak used (Bar's Leak?). Seems like it was a dark chunky substance, and it did turn the water white & milky.

Oil in the water is extremely rare. I had it happen to a race car motor one time, and nobody I told about it believed me.
So I'm not saying it can't happen, but my bet is on the treatment you put in the coolant.

If you were getting oil in your coolant, then you'd be getting coolant in your oil and your oil would be milky. That stop leak,as others said, will make the coolant milky.

Re: Oil in water or is it the stop leak I used?
Thanks all! I drove 300 miles today, on my way home I stopped and checked the coolant and it's was nice and clean, still clear and green! I'd never seen oil in water w/out seeing water in the oil either, it sure looked like it though! Had me worried, my engine doesn't have that many miles since it was rebuilt. The stop leak did look like bars leak but I'm pretty sure it was the Car Quest version of it. I need to get a new radiator!
Thanks again! Posted via Mobile Device
