Tach dash
I have a tach dash I would like to see what it would bring if I were to sell it in as is condition or what it might bring if I were to put a little $$$ into it. The bezel has an extra hole added and the printed circuit appears to have a short. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks, Justin Last edited by Jdubs71; 11-28-2012 at 02:39 AM. |

Re: Tach dash
Justin,
I have found that the value really depends on the condition of the tach face and whether it works or not. Totally restored they seem to fetch between $375-$425 Assuming the face is nice and the tach works, Since yours definately needs a circuit board ($45-$50) I would say the value would be between $175-$200 as is. if the tach face is ugly or is non-functional I feel the value would drop to $100-$125. Here are a few examples: (Ugly one) http://www.ebay.com/itm/68-69-70-71-...vip=true&rt=nc (Decent ones) http://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-68-69-7...p2047675.l2557 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-1972-Ch...p2047675.l2557 Last edited by Livrat; 11-28-2012 at 09:54 PM. Re: Tach dash
Livrat,
Thanks for the info here are a few more pictures. I took the bezel off and the tach looks very clean compared to the other gauges, It looks like the needle could use a touch up. The temp gauge is brand new and looks to be a repop, #'s are printed not stamped. The other gauges are in okay condition. I was told the tach does work, but I honestly don't know for sure. Is there a way to test? If it requires hooking it up to my blazer that won't be possible at the moment, all in pieces. The tin seemed pretty clean once I took the bezel off. I would try to clean it up a bit, but I have decided to go with aftermarket gauges with my LSx swap. Last edited by Jdubs71; 11-28-2012 at 07:48 PM. Reason: spelling |

Re: Tach dash
looks like a nice face on the tach, The easiest way I know of testing it is to hook it up to a vehicle, (other than having a signal generator) I do believe your temp gauge is OEM as I do not think repops have the GM part numbers embossed on them. does it have a resistor on the back side like the fuel gauge? (repops do not use one).
If you can find out if the tach functions, I feel the value I stated above is about right. If it were mine and the tach worked, I would media blast and paint the tins. paint the needles, dig up some other gauges (fuel, speedo, oil etc) purchase a new circuit board ($45) new lens ($30) and a new bezel $50). then it should bring $375-$425 |

Re: Tach dash
I would be better off putting money into it and making a profit, but by the time I did all that i probably wouldn't make much. I'm getting my hands on a sandblaster soon so that stuff wont be an issue. Would you by chance be able to tell me what color paints I would need for the tins, gauge needles etc. I would really like to find a nice restored truck tilt so maybe I could use the bezel as bartering material once its cleaned up a bit.

Re: Tach dash
I agree on putting a few $$ into it.. It is easier to sell all restored and pretty over one that is just a "used cluster".
For the needles I use Krylon fluorescent red/orange or Ace hardware "Rocket Red" on the tins.. inside I use ACE hardware "safety green" it is a bit more greenish than factory. some use "Sea foam" green which is a bit too bluish. Here is a comparision of factory and sea foam colors. the outer tin is sea foam, the inner is factory http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=553895 Here is one of my dashes done in "safety green" http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=543018 Neither color is OEM 100% correct. I wanted to use an "off the self" color over having it custom mixed up. |
