Front Crossmember
I have a 1968 C-10 and want to upgrade to front disc brakes. I have read several suggestions about installing a new crossmember (Saddle) from a 1973 to 1985 to accomplish this. I also have several sources with just upgrade kits.
I'm not sure as to which is the most cost effective way to go....leave the stock saddle and upgrade or to install a later crossmember? It seems to be best to go to a salvage yard and just buy the crossmember because of the hardware. Thank you, |

probably the cheapest route would be to swap in the later crossmember. I prefer the old steel bushings, & have kept the stock crossmember. I have 71-72 lower a arms, with 75 spindles, ball joints, tierod assys & centerlink. The swap can be done either way, & just depends if you have the eng in the truck or out. Its easier to swap the crossmember as a complete unit , if the eng is out of the truck. good luck, crazyL

Thanks,
The engine is out......I'm down to the rolling frame. I found a 1985 unit that seems to be in good shape. I'm able to buy all the brake hardware with it. |

Get the master cylinder and prop valve too if you can. It'll make it a lot easier to use all the components from the same donor.
