71 - 72 Grille Emblem - Question

Has anyone ever bought an aftermarket blue bowtie grille emblem ($40?). If yes, what did you think, do they look like the original? Worth it? Hate to stick a chineese one on there, but NOS (when can be found) seem to be in the upper 80's-100's. Thanks

Re: 71 - 72 Grille Emblem - Question

I've got one on my truck for about 2 years now. The chrome seems to be holding up well but the blue in the emblem is badly faded! My truck lives outside here in PA.

It's a nice looking piece when new.

I may try to swap in a good used insert if I can find one.

Does this look like NOS? What else would it be if no?

I have one, its much lighter in weight than the gm one, but for the price I'm happy with it.

It has a GM box, not sure if NOS or restoration part should be good as is is a GM licensed part at least.

Re: 71 - 72 Grille Emblem - Question

A NOS or GM restoration part part will look good for 20 plus years, the repo, maybe one year. Buy the best part you can afford. If that's a repo now and maybe a better one later that's fine.

Re: 71 - 72 Grille Emblem - Question

Thanks for the replies. Do you think that one with a GM box is legit? Would there be some sort of number stamped on the back to identify it as authentic? I'd hate to spend the cash on something like that only to find out it's a repro part shoved into a GM box.

Re: 71 - 72 Grille Emblem - Question

The box that is showing in that pic looks like a remade GM part. I doubt it would be as "good" as a NOS, is anything made these days? Most GM parts are made in Mexico these days anyway.

I had a quick look around on that site and they sure look expensive! I only had a quick look so I may be wrong...
