Arrow How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

So I am installing my 3" rear/1" front drop springs and shocks (w/relocation brackets) from ECE this week and an adjustable panhard bar with new bushings since mine was shot I figured I might as well upgrade the whole bar.

Question, do I install the bar along with my springs/shocks and THEN adjust it? Or do I wait until after I install the other components and let the suspension settle and THEN install it? And is there any science to adjusting it other than making it the proper length and bolting it on?

Thanks in advance!

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

Easy peasy! Install it when you install your other lowering components. Measure from the back of your hub to a common spot on your frame for each side and do your best to center it. Depends on what type of panhard bar you have. Mine has to be removed from the axel side to adjust it which.makes it kind of a pain. I had to use tow straps to "position" the rear end and then reinstall the bar. Other panhard bars just adjust at a coupling like your tie rods. Your fresh new coils will settle, so you'll want to check your measurements after 6 weeks or so. Hope this helps!

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

Put your new springs and shocks in first and set the truck back on its feet (or on jack stands under the trailing arms) to see where your at. Either way, you'll need to jack it back up to pull your u bolts to install the bracket for the bar. There'll be some trial and error, so hang in there.

pull the u-bolts for the bracket? i didnt think there was a bracket with the bar. thought it was just a beefed up bar.

I didnt get the "Super trac bar" just the standard one.

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

My mistake. Thought you got the "super track bar". Same process...minus the u bolt part.

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

Does your adjustable trac bar have a swivel at BOTH ends or just one end?

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

Bummer. If you had the one that swivels at both ends, you just install it, and twist it forward or backwards to center your rear left to right. Since it only swivels at one end, you need to center your rear end first, adjust the bar, and then install the bar, as described in post number 3 above. Not a big deal, just takes longer. The dual swivel allows you to do it in a matter of seconds.

thanks for the tip!

Another question, I have the ECE shock mount relocation brackets but Im not 100% sure which way they go on and dont want to install them in the wrong direction. In this picture (from ECE site) this is showing the drivers side correct?

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

Install everything (shocks springs and bar), get it on the ground measure the backing plates of each side and make adjustments on the panhard bar until the rear is centered under the truck.

Re: How to Adjust Panhard Bar?

for a lack of a better explanation they are the inside of the brake, the round part that bolts to the end of the axle and all the brake hardware mounts to.
