Electric Fans... Y in shroud?
So I saw a post here while researching about using a fan out of a Cherokee. This fan was good because it fit into the factory shroud....
My question is why does it need to fit into the factory shroud? Why not just go with a set up like this from summit? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-g4908 I am thinking that with out the shroud it makes more room and clean up the bay a little. Just not sure if there is an advantage to using the factory shroud and going with the jeep fan.

Re: Electric Fans... Y in shroud?
The purpose of the shroud is to draw outside air across the entire radiator, so it doesn't develop hot spots.

Re: Electric Fans... Y in shroud?
If the shroud that's included with it doesn't cover the entire radiator, it will develop hot spots outside of the area that air is drawn through.

Re: Electric Fans... Y in shroud?
Just a little thought on elct fan(s).....If the cooling system is up to the job, the fan or fans will not run at cruise speed, you are pushing enough air through the radiator @ 55 -65 mph to keep that engine cool! Sitting in traffic, thats a bit different on a hot day I agree with covering the complete rad , with the shroud....set the controls up with the themostat on temp. I ran 2 -14" flex a lites, on a home brew shroud (modified tin shelf). The controls were painless, on 185/off 165.....160 stat, & a 4 row copper/brass radiator. Never over 180 on the temp on the hyway cruise, & they would switch on/off in traffic on a 105 degree day in Illinois(never bust 190). WOT, on the hyway.....the old booger would kick 210 (not bad after 4 or 5 miles) But she would cool right down, back @ cruise speed. These fans were "wall to wall" on that radiator tho. Best of fun, crazyL
