4 wheel drive question
iv been looking at a 1969 chev 4x4 the owner says it has a np203 transfer case if i remember correctly, anyways he said the truck is full time 4 wheel drive and you can only do 80 kmh
the speed limit on our highways is 100 kmh not that i would be doing much highway driving with it even with that limit in town the truck would possibly be reving higher than it needs to im assuming? my main question or concern is obviously if i bought it id want to change out the transfer case so i can drive it properly and disengage the 4 wheel drive when its not needed, what transfer cases are useable on these trucks as in what years can i go up to without modifying anything or much, these trucks in 4 wheel drive arent very common around here surprisingly enough so if the transfer cases are 67-72 specific id be sol |

Re: 4 wheel drive question
Sounds like a conversion or body swap on a newer chassis. The 69's had a Rockwell T221 transfer case that had 2Hi, 4Hi, 4Lo, N. Good units but harder to find parts for than a np205, which was introduced in 1970. Speed was only limited by your rear axle ratio and engine in all 67-72's

Re: 4 wheel drive question
im thinking it may have been a chassis swap it says it has a 400 sb not that it would indicate anything but something doesnt seem right with the inner fenders in the under hood pic and the tires seem off in the side shot too heres the link if anyone wants to check it out
any input would be helpful since iv never owned one of these with 4 wheel drive so if you notice something or everything looks as it should let me know, the price may seem high to some but around here thats a fair price http://regina.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehic...AdIdZ430060136 |

Re: 4 wheel drive question
If you check it out look at the cab mounts. They are different at sit out wider on 73-87than the 67-72 chassis. Take a look to on the passenger side frame rail under the door area. As far as the transfer case goes, you can buy a part time conversion kit and it will act like a normal transfer case. There is a lot info on the np203 on the 4x4 forum here. My truck is sitting on a 78 chassis with the same np203 and i have not had any problems. I do have a part time conversion kit though.
It all depends on what you want to do with the truck.

Re: 4 wheel drive question
Tilt is not stock but is a good upgrade.... has a low hump, 4WD trucks came with a high hump.... 4WD should also have steel tube for most of upper radiator hose. Hard to say what that truck is, could be anything. If you can get the VIN, it can be decoded.

Re: 4 wheel drive question
I don't think your speed is limited by the x-fer case. Check your differential gears. A 4.11 or 4.56 WILL limit your highway cruise speed.

Re: 4 wheel drive question
yea i might still look at it but if its a 69 chev body on a newer frame im not interested in it, i also noticed it has a front bumper off the 73-80 trucks, i want a 69-72 chev 4x4 on a 69-72 chev 4x4 chassis not a back yard hack job lol
