so my buddy has one that I have not seen. He said it is in great shape and black with grey interior, He wants to trade me that for a AR15 I have.... My questions are:

any issues with that year?
how reliable?
v8 pretty powerful?
do the wheel good?

None I can think of off hand
very dependable
305's are gutless 350's are decent
define wheeling, its not a purpose built mudder, but with the right tires it can hold it's own on mild-modderate trails.

Sportside is what they are. I have a '92 GMC K3500 and feel these are one of the best years. I bought mine new and it is still my main work truck with nearly 300,000 on it.

Re: 1992 Z71 Stepside 4wd

I have one, 92 Z71 sport. Great truck. 365k miles, never had the valve covers off (testament to oil & filter every 3k). 3rd transmission (even with service every 20k miles), second rear end. Does great in the snow. It's been on the jeep trails here in SoCal and in Colorado many times. My only complaint is the horrible turning radius.

Re: 1992 Z71 Stepside 4wd

my wife & i been driving our 90 stepper(pretty much the same) for over 16 yrs with no issues with stock 350, replaced 1 clutch & a g80 diff that let go under some intense 4byin. with a 350, 5-speed & 3:73's, these trucks will wheel, only limiting factor is ifs, always skying a front wheel. turning radius is good on these swb trucks, maybe cause i'm used to driving a lifted crew that takes 865 to turn around. i'd say 80% on road, 15% off-road, & 5% serious off-road
