Did '71's come with a stock coolant reservoir bottle?

Saw one at the junk yard in a '71. Was in really good shape. Had a clear hose running to a bottle that slid in to a metal mount that was next to the battery. It had a red cap on it.

If its a factory part, might be worth going back and picking it up

That sounds like an aftermarket item... I think there were quite a few that were offered back in the day.

There was an option for a factory coolant tank thought, but I beleive they all mounted next to the radiator. Check out this thread some time: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=5739451
