1974 GMC pickup bed question

Hey everyone.

I have a '74 GMC Sierra Grande long bed 3/4 ton pickup truck. Right now the truck has the dual tanks, but I do not use the tank on the right because it has never worked right. I have the fuel level on the dash to switch tanks. I am getting ready to start working on this truck and that leads to my question.

Do I HAVE to go back with the dual tank bed or can I switch to a single tank and do away with the right hand fuel tank and the fuel selecter lever?

If I do go to a single fuel tank, how hard would it be to do and would a single tank bolt up? Also what year beds would work?

Re: 1974 GMC pickup bed question

you will have the switch selector and wiring there but yes you can eliminate a tank if you so desire

Easy easy just drop your right tank weld the door on the right side up or just leave it there. Remove the switch and just change your plumbing and wiring and your good to go

Well you don't have to change the wiring and plumbing that just depends on how picky you are

Re: 1974 GMC pickup bed question

None of my business, but I would keep the dual tank bed and "fixins" even if you don't plan to use it. A lot of people like the dual tanks, considering the way our old trucks suck gas, it is nice to have more fuel to be able to take a trip without having to stop at every exit
