You will probably not find them for any less, honestly. If you find a set, and are unsure if they are "cleared" all you need to do is call the DMV and they will run the sequence and tell you.

As soon as Calif. started the YOM program, antique plates all turned into gold

I have 2 sets, you can check to see if they are cleared now, they were not 6 years ago
BTW- they have been repainted and my price will be less than $400.oo  Oops let me add some photos......

the Tulare swap meet is the last weekend of January. There are always plates available there.
