Hello all
I found a 400 small block out of a Pontiac and I was wondering if the bolts pattern and everything for the bellhousing to bolt up is the same as a chevy's? Thanks for all the input.

i do believe BOP (buick/olds/pontiac)(cadillac too) motors had a different bellhousing pattern than chevies.

I think that is correct. The pontiac 400 will not bolt directly to a 700r4. I think if you find a 200r4 you will be in luck. I think that trans has both bolt patterns.

cadillac i thought had the same boltpattern bc they used the turbo 400 on some of their big blocks I THINK

Buick, Olds, Pontiac, and Cadillac used a seperate pattern than Chevy. Some trannys, particulary lots of 200-4r were dual drilled for either pattern.

Dinnut, sure Caddy uses TH400, but it's different bolt pattern than Chevy.

b.o.p. motor's did have different bolt pattern's for sure... The internal part's from one trannt to the other will inter change though.. So at least you could find a b.o.p. tranny and swap the gut's with a chevy tranny to make it all work.

They make B.O.P adapter plates that go to Chevy trans. They cost around 80 dollars. I believe that Summit or Jegs carries them.

right guys they make a plate to adapt things,but my uncle had a 69 or 70 chevy truck a few years back that had a rare tranny In It that would accept bolts of chevy and buick olds and pontiac on the (hogs head)bellhousing.they did not pmake alot of these this way just a few.
