Bagging my '50
Hey Guys,
I was wondering what i would be looking to spend on putting airride on my truck. I have a 1950 on an '88 all S-10 suspention truck. Im looking to put it on the ground. How much modifications to the frame is needed The front running board already sits 3.75" off the ground. |

There are so many variables to that question its hard to answer. Luckily being on a S10 frame there is a huge aftermarket which makes it a lot cheaper to bag. The front is cheap and easy. How much room is there between the rear axle and frame now? I would 1st measure that, then the amount between the rear of the running board and ground. That number will tell you how much notch you need in the rear. If you can get away with a small c notch rather than a full step notch it will be much cheaper.
The rear can be done so many ways on s10 frames just depending on how you want it and how much you want to spend.

One thing about having a s10 chassis is that you can find parts every where and it is easy to bag cups in the front and 2 link with a panhard bar in the rear check out ***************** or ekstensivemetalworks.com

my buddy has a 53 on s10.. you dont need to do a c notch.. he is running 22 and his running board are an inch off the ground... so you dont need nothing.. he did bags over axle in the rear... and just s10 plates up front... if u do need that 1" more you can just do those bolt in rear notch...

That's a badass truck but a lot more than 2 inches off the ground. My truck has a small tire 285/35/18s and has a 2.5 inch notch and just barely lays running board. My cab it 4" off the frame. If the OP has a stock gas tank and not an s10 tank there are a lot of better options than the normal S10 stuff.

Make your body mounts as small off the frame as you can. that will sit your whole cab lower. Stock I belive is 7in?

That is way to high, I have spent the last 6 months picking up pieces for my air ride and patch panels for the cab on my 54. So far I have less then $1200 in the air ride and that includes a step notch bridge kit and all the brackets. I want to lay it on the ground so I went with a weld in step notch. If you shop around you can pick of pieces or a kit for a lot less then $6k. Now there are some very expensive kits that work great if you have that kinda of money to spend, but there are a lot of cheaper kits if you can weld that work just fine. Talk to AVS they are a board vendor on the forum.

you can cheap out and get terrible ride and driving characteristics or spend the money and do it correctly. |
