Another diff thread

Hello all,

I have a '73 C10 with a 327 and 3 speed turbo 400 (not sure of exact one). I was trying to check my rear end for codes or stamps and I couldn't find anything on it. It is a 12-bolt 5-lug setup with very low gears, my brother said 3.08 or below. Basically I wanted to know if it would be wise to go the route of trying to find a 12-bolt 5-lug rear end in the junk yard or simply get a eaton posi kit with the 3.73 gears.

I want a 3.73 setup in the back because I will be doing very little highway driving, and in the future, I will eventually upgrade my transmission to a 4 or 5 speed, if possible.

If I went the rout of picking up a posi and 3.73 kit, what would(or should) a shop normally charge to install the parts?

Also, would it be wise to get power brakes installed at the same time by the shop? I recently changed the master cylinder and bled all of the brakes, but I have not driven the truck yet as I would like to get tires as well as the rear end done.

I am sorry if this, which it has, been posted numerous times.

Re: Another diff thread

No worries. Some may say to do a search but that is a general and lazy response in most threads and other forums that can't help or know knotting but how to be jacka$$3$ we aren't like that here so welcome and please stay a while and enjoy.
Now I just recently had my rear done by Randy's ring and pinion. I went with Yukon 3:73 and a Detroit trutrac for all to be done it was about 1300. You can call them since a traction device can be as little as $300 or as much as $1000 depending on what you find yourself needing. I would urge you to look up the spartan locker the eaton spring posi the true trac and the Detroit locker and see which will fit your purpose best based on features and price. Also lookup on summit diffrent gear brands and prices so you have a feel for cost involved

Re: Another diff thread

Haha, thanks for going easy on me. I have done my research but I'm just too confused.

What do you mean by getting the the setup done by Randy's. Did you simply buy it from them and install it yourself?
