Frame differences, '63-66 Suburban/Pick-up?

I've got a '61 Suburban... On the '60-'62 trucks, they seem to have used a standard pick-up chassis, and at the rear they riveted on extension and an additional far-rear cross member.

I just cut the rear frame horns off a '65 Suburban in a junkyard, and it wasn't an extension, the frame was full-length.

Anybody have any insight on this? What year did they make the switch to using Suburban-specific frame rails?
What are the difference between a Suburban frame versus a pick-up frame?

it is also and extension on the 65 suburbans. body mount brkts are different except for the frt cab one. rear mount gas tank in panels and suburbans.
so why did you cut off the 65 rear frame horns?

Where was it extended from?

The truck was in the junkyard. Body was gone all along the bottom, and the driver's side quarter was rotted all the way around into the lights... Pulled the Reverse light off without unscrewing it.

Someone years ago had torched the trailing arms to take out the rear end, and set it back down on the ground. It'd grown into the ground several inches.

I wanted the tail gate assembly, tail panel below the gate, and the back bumper. It was easier to cut through the floor and quarters, and cut through the chassis.

I looked around pretty well I thought, and the chassis was all one piece--no extension riveted on.

It might have been a '66 if that'd make a difference.

if you look at the picture. just behind the rear spring hanger, on top there is a crossmember. that rear extension slides inside of the main frame rails up to that crossmember. on the top going to the back you will see a bolt head protruding, just behind there is where they come together

that is interesting ron, my 64 chev 1/2 ton 2wd has a solid frame rail, not an extension like the one you have pictured....

(you'll have to look around all the stuff I moved or added)

My '65 doesn't have an extension- it's a solid frame

thats what I was thinking, I wonder what the gmc leaf spring 2wd frames look like?
did they make a factory 3/4 ton 4X4 sub?

only 1/2 t suburbans. I remember reading something about those rear extensions now, but can't remember what I read

Yea my '64 panel also has a solid frame. No extension. I have trailing arms too, not leaf springs.
