Can anyone help me identify this 10 bolt axle code? - 6GF P066D - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am trying to figure out what donner vehicle this 10 bolt came out of that is in this 1956 3100.

Any help decoding this stamped code would be greatly appriciated. If there are any other things to look at that will help let me know.

One clue was the places where you could see that brackets had been cut off the housing.

I'd say that there is a pretty good chance that the same car donated the front suspension and maybe even the engine.

Is there any place on the front end and engine I could look for stamp codes that may tell me if they are?

The engine does have camel back fuely heads.

HC shows up as a 65 327 power glide or a 69 350 Stick according to this. http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-5.php Most guys consider the NastyZ28 charts to be pretty accurate.
This page shows casting numbers that will be behind the left head on the block

It should look something like this if it works.

The casting numbers will id the block as if it is a 65 327 it will have a small journal crank and a 350 will have a big journal crank.

i 'd say the front is camaro . the chevelle upper a arms drop a couple inches above the spindle.
camaro are almost flat.

If it is a camaro front end what years range could it be? Is there a way to narrow it down?

If it is it would be 73/79 I think. It could also be 73/77 Chevelle or other similar car.

I think someone makes tube A arms that are a bit shorter or the other way is to cut a section out of the middle of the crossmember and move the sides in. The problem with that is that you also have to modify the steering cross link or change to something else and the sway bar won't work unless it was modified. I have no idea of what you plan for wheels on the front but wheels with no negative offset might get the tires in far enough to clear if they don't rub on the inside. Pretty much like running a front wheel drive wheel. If you are planning on 20's or bigger with wide tires it isn't going to work unless you do make major changes.

Thanks again for the info. What I meant to say was "narrow it down to a specific year". It seems to be ok width wise for now.
