Alright I was told that the engine in my '66 is the original factory 327.

now the engine has power pack heads on it so it would be a 250HP 327

i read the suffix code on the front of the engine and came back with a

060IWA from what i can tell. what does this mean?

here's what my engine looks like.

As far as I know, the best way to be sure is to get the engine number off the block behind the driver's side head, near the bellhousing...

According to the small block suffix codes listed at: http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...-suffix-10.php the "WA" is one of the following:

1965-up 283, 2bbl, 175HP, from a C10-35 truck

1968-up 307, 2bbl, 200HP, from a C10-25 truck

1969-up 350, 4bbl, 255HP, from a C20-35 truck

So like Ta2Don said, it's best to get the casting number off the back of the block near the bellhousing. It can be hard to read with the engine in place so you might have to use an inspection mirror to see down in there.

As for the rest of that "0601WA" code you found, the 06 = June (month the engine was originally assembled), and the 01 = 1st day of the month. There's usually a single letter prefix at the beginning of that code that indicates the engine assembly plant.
