97 dually frame beating the axle
I bought a 97 dually that has a good drop job on the front and a hack job on the back. The frame is beating the rear diff and I need to find a solution. I want to install either helper air springs OR longer drop shackles.
My question... does anyone know of a shakle hanger kit that will do a 4000 lb load or where I can find bags that have a 2"-6" range? If I can't fix the rear, I need to buy new front non-drop spindals etc. etc.... and put her back to stock..

Re: 97 dually frame beating the axle
Do you have any pics of whats been done on the back? Sounds like you could use a c-notch. I have the Bell Tech drop hangers and shackles on the back of my 97 eclb dually and even with my slide in camper in the back the diff is nowhere near the frame with no notching and all the over loads removed, though i do have helper bags on it to help with side loading.

Re: 97 dually frame beating the axle
Whoever did the suspension on this truck put drop spindles on the front.
It sits fine in front but I did have to change the shocks to shorter units. The back is a totally different story. They pulled the leaves and put in 3 leaf drop leaves and added the overloads to the top. The bump stops sit 3" above the axle so if I put anything in the bed, the frame sits on the axle. No drop shackles were used. I am assuming the springs on the truck were for a half ton. My latest idea is to use overload bags but the bags I have are too tall so I need to change to a different bag. I was going to put stock leafs back in but can't find any in my limited budget.

Here are some cheap replacements but I would call all the wrecking yards and have them put it on there hotline.Very few leaf springs get wrecked so they are probably not that much coin. Lynn |

Re: 97 dually frame beating the axle
Ha! You would think that a set of stock springs for a 97 dually would be in piles at the local wrecking yards... at maybe $30-$40 each.... ahhh but that isn't the case and the ones that do have them want WAY too much for them.... like more than double that...
![]() On top of the wrecking yard money grubbers, if I put stock springs on the truck will sit about 6-7 inches higher in the back than the front and since the front has drop spindles AND springs, I would need to replace the front suspension with the stock set-up. I can't C-notch a truck that I use day in and day out for work so that isn't an option for this truck. I just need to find the right air bags I think. ![]()
