SM465 Bell Housing

The hydraulic slave cylinder ear broke off of my aluminum bell housing and is irreparable as the aluminum is too corroded. I cannot locate a new bell housing for the life of me. I'm being told that they are not common to come by and I'd really like to find one so I can move forward on my project. CL came up empty and all of the auto yards, transmission shops nor drive train shops know where to locate one. Any advice? what are my options? Thanks in advance

The SM465 has a bigger bearing retainer. You can machine the other bell housing out, and turn down the retainer and make that work.

Re: SM465 Bell Housing

I know there is a truck salvage yard up the road from me here in Southern CO with many hydraulic clutch ’85 to ’91 square trucks. The place is called Canyon Truck in Canon City, CO 719-275-5236

I am removing a hydraulic bell from my ’89 Burb as I am doing a NV4500 swap next week. I already sold the bell otherwise I would help you out.

Another option would be to order an Advance Adapters 715535 bracket from Summit Racing. It is around $30 and is used to convert older mechanic bells to hydraulic. This bracket will work with your original slave

I bought mine (used) from Just Chevy Trucks in Lebannon Maine. You could give them a call @ 1 (207) 457-5500 or 1 (603) 335-3350. Good luck

I can't thank you enough for this post. On my dually, the bell housing is cracked nearly 2/3 of the way around and there are some chunks missing even. I've been looking pretty hard for a replacement and they are not cheap. All of the rock crawler guys buy them up. So I called Advanced Adapters just now and they confirmed that this bracket in conjunction with the older (easy to find) bell housing will work.

Cool! Glad to have been able to help someone today. That AA bracket is pretty inexpensive too. I think, $34??

This is how the AA slave bracket looks when installed on either their bell or a factory GM mechanical bell. The AA kit uses the same slave but requires their rod.

Opposed to the factory GM slave mount
