Disc brake kit question

i bought a 5 lug conversion kit from ECE awhile back. I really don't know why I went with 5 lugs. I can't change the rear to 5 lug right now. I was thinking i could just buy some 6 lug rotors and go back to 6 lugs. That way my wheels will match again. Anyone know what year to buy?

yeah i just did that. I know the 5 lugs were off of 71-87 trucks I believe. They responded that I can buy the 6 lugs from them for $79 each. I was hoping for something I could get locally.

Since there are no used factory 6-lug 4x2 rotors that are a direct fit I am aware of it seems to me a used 5-lug rear would be the cheaper solution.

A while back I bought some dropped front springs for a big block truck, then decided to go with a small block. I called ECE to order the small block springs and was telling them how I changed my mind and he just swapped out the springs for me, all it cost me was freight.

Another thought,

If you really like 5 lug for the flexibility of wheel selection you can put 5 lug axles in your rear end. You will need to buy drums also. Not sure if this will help you but I thought I would mention it.

New rear axles, or a 71 or later whole rear end, or drilling out the 6 lug rear axle with a 5 lug pattern are all rear options, but the cheapest is still expensive. I was thinking 2 rotors would be about 70$ pair, but I guess not.

Once you buy new rear axles you still have to do something about the rear brakes. I now think buying 5 lug was stupid. I haven't seen any wheels I like that aren't available in 6 lug.

I personally like the 5-lug wheel options better.
The 6-lug rotor you need is an aftermarket item.
(5-lug blank rotor drilled to the 6-lug pattern)

If it was my truck,... I would add a set of 5-lug Moser axles, and some 71-72 brake drums.

At some point I'm sure I'll either do that or swap to rear disc. It's a matter of money. So who knows when it will be.

Moser axles are $260. 5 lug drums are all that is needed as mentioned above. Dirt cheap. And I wouldn't worry about disc in the rear unless you have wheels that readily show the ugly drums. Rear brakes only supply 25% of braking power in an unloaded pickup.... at best.

I'm assuming you bought the 5 lug kit because of disc brakes, correct? There was no mistake in that, much better stopping.

Like other's have mentioned your options are limited. I'm running the 6 lug rotors from ECE on my truck. I've had them since 2002 and probably over 30-35K miles on them. They seem to be a high quality rotor.

ECE also sells the correct axle shafts to convert your stock rear axle to a 5 lug rear axle for around $300. As mentioned above, you can get a used 71/72 axle, but at least in my area they sell for at least $150-250 for a good one.

If you really want to stay 6 lug buy the rotors.
