but even still some casting numbers could be either 2 or 4 bolt the only sure fire way is to pull the pan. if the engine is running good or in a truck it doesnt matter much anyways a 2 bolt is plenty strong for about any street bound motor. and in some cases the 2 bolt is stronger than the 4 bolt

I think if the last 4 numbers are 0010, it`s a four bolt.

My spare 350 is 0010 and its a 2 bolt, but you can get a 2 bolt Splayed at the machine shop and its supposedly stronger than a 4 bolt.

3970010 is a very common block, and can be 2 or 4 bolt.....the 1 in my Longhorn is a 2 bolt block(also 10/20 high nickel). i also have 2 spare blocks with the same casting # , & they are also 2 bolt blocks. the best way to know for sure, is pull the pan ,as cableguy suggested i also agree that the 2 bolt block is plenty strong for a hot street application.....with addition of a set of main studs, the 2 bolt block should handle in the range of 450hp. for the ultimate 4 bolt, a 2 bolt with a splayed cap conversion is the ticket. crazyL
