Fuel Tank Choices

I have been toying with the idea of using a 65 Mustang fuel tank in 54/S10 conversion. In the rear of the S10 there is a cross brace to supported the spare tire winch mechanism. Each end is riveted to the frame directly above the rear spring shackle bolt holes. Does this cross member add strength to the shackle support area or is it mainly a support for the tire winch? It would have to be moved to use a Mustang gas tank. Apparently my cab is too low on the frame to allow me to use the S10 fuel tank. If not the Mustang, what are my other choices?
