Cpp spindle confusion

Everytime I've talked to someone or researched cpp spindles I get a different answer on how they change tracking width. On my 71 parts truck I measured from rotor (wheel mounting surface) to the frame and came up with 17 7/8". When I measured on the frame in my garage I got 17 1/4". So that means these cpp spindles narrowed my track width 5/8" each side compared to stock 71 with disk brakes. My spindles are the ones that need the caliper bracket, not the ones that are cast into the spindle. Hope this helps solve confusion I know it was driving me crazy. Give or take alignment and other factors the actual measurement may differ.

Re: Cpp spindle confusion

So you are saying:
1) 5/8" narrower than a stock disc brake spindle.

But there are still these questions,...
2) ?? narrower than a standard drop spindle?
3) ?? narrower than a drum brake spindle?

The other issue with you "measuring over to the frame",...
is that the angle of the lower a-arm will affect this number.
(a-arm pointing down, laying flat, or pointing upward,... will change the distance to the frame)

Im pretty sure they didnt have the modular that long ago. I think only in the last year or two did they come out.

Re: Cpp spindle confusion

I have modulars on my 71 chassis for my panel. But Its just a bare chassis (no engine/sheet metal) I can take a measurement off it if someone wants. Just need to know from where to where do you want it measured. Probably going to make more sense when the metal is hung though.

With a jack under the control arm and putting them near the same angle this is what I got. This gives us a good idea that it's not widening over stock. All I have is cpp spindle and a disk brake to measure from I can't speak on drums or other brand spindles.

Re: Cpp spindle confusion

^What?
If you bought these 8 years ago they are not modular. If you were running drums your track width will be increased by 3/4" per side or 1-1/2" total +/-
If you have a 70 or earlier rearend your front track will be 1-1/2" wider than the back. We compensate this by running wider wheels on the back. In my case I'm running 15x8's on the back and 15x7's on the front and my track width is the same from outside of tire to outside of tire.
BTW the only way to get a accurate measurement is with the suspension in its operating position (preferably under load).
If anyone finds this info to be incorrect please post up.

Re: Cpp spindle confusion

The cpp chart showed my measurement to be within an eight of what I measured. If you measure under same conditions you should have a good reference.

Re: Cpp spindle confusion

ill have check with it under load. the 8 year old drop spindle isn't sounding promising with what ive heard. i was wanting least amount of backspae as possible. anyone have a pic of their wheel on a standard spindle? would like to see how it looks. sounds like i might be buying new spindles!
