Steering Column Options for an AD
My 50 currently has a Chevette steering column in it. It has to go.
Next spring I might be able to pull another AD column out of a truck at my favorite bone yard - he's closed after the first snow fall (we just got 10" today). However, with the '72 wiring in my frankenbeast, I need to consider a more modern ignition switch. Could be on the column or in the dash. Just curious what fits and looks decent in these trucks. I'm currently thinking either AD or 67-72 or a cross of both (newer C10 column with a AD era steering wheel).

Didn't think of that. I could tear the Chevette column down and build a tube to house it.

Hey, I'm thinking about a new column also. Mknittle, could you give some more info on making your own column?
The best thing I could think of, was to get a cheap column, remove the old plastic housing and make a new one housing out of some tubing. |

Re: Steering Column Options for an AD
Has anyone modified a stock column to work? I have looked at mine and thought about shortening the tube adding a sealed roller bearing at the bottom and machining the shaft to double D. Haven't measured the shaft diameter to even know if its big enough though.

I believe I used one from Flaming River. It was made for the AD trucks.
