Frame shortening bolt in piece?

I was thinking the other day about how people use bolt in c notches and wondered if a piece could be made for people wanting to shorten their frames? This would allow people who aren't welders to be able to do it themselves. I have been away from these trucks for awhile and am getting my old 69 out of storage and don't have a welder at the moment. I was thinking about making a shortbed and just brainstorming.

Its possible, but I don't know if it would be strong enough due to the location. In a C-notch application there isn't much vertical force applied on the frame unless you use your trailer hitch.

On the other hand, the frame receives a significant amount of vertical force where the splice is made to go from LWB to SWB. Not that it couldn't be engineered to work, but it would require some serious boxing and bolting.

Personally I would try to locate a OEM SWB frame to convert your truck if welding wasnt an option.

Call a few chassis shops around you see what they change to make it a swb.Could your idea work yes but the big problem i see is the price tag mostly.Thorbros makes a bolt in back half for a s10 and its 2500 bucks plus shipping.On a full size truck i would guess something like that being closer to 4k i bet and how many of us could or would spend that much to make it profitable for their r&d work to make it?

you aer thinking to far into it. why would you replace the entire rear? cut out the chunk and a "splice" bolted back in to hodl the two peices together.

but it could be done, but for th eamount of bracing and hole drilling neded itd be easier to hire someone to bring their mobile welder to your place and do it.

you cna cut it shorten it get it all squared, run some bolts through it to hold it all together, then get a welder to weld it up.

Yes they do, and its a nice kit. That still doesn't resolve the issue because its a weld in kit.

There are several alternatives to not being able to weld your conversion together. My first choice still stands with getting an OEM SWB frame. If thats not a viable choice, then follow the steps in our FAQ forum and hire a welder to do the work at your shop.

in street trucks they showeed the no limit kit as a bolt in? Seemed pretty well thought out and easy.

Just to clear things up. Yes we are wrapping up our rear rail kit. It IS a bolt-in installation, and can also be welded. It will convert a LWB to a SWB, AND, it raises the rear rail 4". This will require you to raise the bed floor 4" as well. We are working on some formed parts to help with that as well.
