McGaughys 4 wheel disc question

Some of the guys running the McGaughys 4 wheel disc kit .. Are your wheel studs a little short? Have you replaced them and if so, which part number did you use? I'd say I need about another 3/8".. (6 more threads or so ? )

The ones I have give me maybe 5-6 threads I'd just like to get a little more .. Is there a car out there running 1/2 20 like this we could cross reference?

thanks.

Re: McGaughys 4 wheel disc question

70cst can you edit your post to correct the link for the rear brake thread? You double dipped on the http// so it redirects as an invalid URL.

Thanks

For some reason I can't LINK these up

Re: McGaughys 4 wheel disc question

OK, so I get this right the McGaughys 13" fronts are '96 C4 Corvette Gran Sport rotors with 2000 Silverado Single piston sliding calipers? ...and the 13" rears are also off the shelf GM rotors and calipers of some sort? ...and have integrated parking brake? I know when I called CPP they claim that you have to get the rotors from them, special some how, I'd really like to get brakes where I have more rotor choices and not be at the mercy of having to get replacement parts for some specific kit. If that means converting to 5 on 4 3/4 on all 4 corners, I'm OK with that. I'd rather spend a couple hundred on a pair of axles then be stuck without a rotor supplier 5 to 10 years out.

You're really really close ..
Front calipers are 2000 Silverado dual piston. I saw a Trailblazer (not an SS) this morning and the calipers looked a lot like the ones I have in my kit. I took them apart to paint them., they looked really familiar.

The rotors are 96 Grand Sport. McGaughys offers a drilled upgrade, I'm not sure about them but so far so good .. (mine are drilled) I haven't run them yet.

I'm not sure what the rear calipers are from, but they are single piston. Integrated parking brake that likes to pinch fingers. A good friend of mine had the same issue with the intermediate parking brake cable being a little short .. so don't be suprised if you have to re-work your parking brake tension / cable a little bit. Not a huge deal, but the cables in the kit are a bit short. (3" or so per side)

My only complaint with the kit the instruction are not really clear on how to mount the rear caliper brackets. It took me a couple times to get it right. Also they will take some minor shimming to get them perfect. Add a washer between the bracket here and there to shim it perfectly. (most kits will be no different)

The wheel studs in this kit could be a touch longer.. not a complaint .. If I had different wheels, it might be fine.

Other than that, man .. get it. It's the best kit for the money IMO. Summit carries their parts too. Just take the McGaughy's part number and plug it into the Summit 'search' box and it will come right up. If I had it to do over, I'd get the same kit. I have their drop spindles too on both my trucks. .. I really like their stuff. But really, check with Travis or someone here on the site if you have cash they might be able to save you some money.

I am going with a Wilwood MC, 1 1/8 bore and an adjustable Wilwood proportioning valve.
