Hello, from Tx.

Originally from North Dakota, living in TX because the Army saw fit to put me here.

Looking at getting into a '67-'72 C10 as a money pit toy, since I've wanted one since forever... First vehicle I ever drove was a '68 GMC 3/4 ton back when I was 7 (raised on a farm). Looked at a local one for sale today; '70 C20 long-box 4-speed 350. Rough as hell, but that's how I want it... Floor pans were badly rusted, door corners had some nasty cancerous spots, bed was full of gravel but not too bad underneath (meaning there's hope for the bed)... Since it was a desert truck all her life, she actually had very little rust... She had mud in a few key places (lots on the tailgate), meaning she was redone at one point (by the color and age of the mud, I'd say late 70's early 80's). The seller said he'd throw in the new floor pans, new dash, and other new stuffs.

What turned me off, though, was the amount of sand covering the engine, the tiny 2bbl carb with near-microscopic air cleaner and the fact that there was a bit of sand present past the air cleaner. Also, she didn't want to run right, but I speculate that this is one of four easy fixes: Fuel filter, bad gas, fuel line, sending unit. Also, the gas pedal was missing and only had the stick. Easy fix, though. Really, the whole truck was a bunch of easy fixes, except for a broken bolt on the carb/intake mani mating area, which could also be part of the running problem...

Also, the parking brake didn't seem to do anything, which is slightly alarming for a manual trans pickup... Last thing I want is to have that big beautiful hunk of rusty scrap roll into some poor Private's plastic piece of non-Chevy in the parking lot.... :S

He listed it for 1800 but just knocked the price to 1700... I'm thinking if I show up with 1400 cash he'd let it go with all the goodies... Still, that means a loan for me. That big Army money only stretches so thin, etc...

Really considering it, but I don't think it is worth a loan. Further, I don't think it would pass a Tx. state inspection...

Anyways, what do you all think? I'm sure there are more elder C10 experts here that could lend an expert opinion on this case.....

Thanks,
- CK

Also, the obligatory n00by emote!

Re: Hello, from Tx.

P.s. I couldn't find the "edit post" option, so don't mind the double-post....

Where is the best place to look for parts for these things? Specifically, a seat and a steak knife steering wheel (that one with the wood riveted on like a steak knife)...
