1967-1972 Leaf Spring Flip Kit Question

I have lowered leafs now on my 1972 Shortbed. Im planning on putting my stock leafs back in with a flip kit so i can run car traction bars. I haven't had any luck finding a 1967-72 flip kit. Are you guys using 1973-87 flip kits? any info would be appreciated. I have a rear end out of a '86 under it now. I don't see why a 1973-87 flip kit wont work but wanted to double check before i buy. Thanks guys

Josh.

Re: 1967-1972 Leaf Spring Flip Kit Question

I too used the DJM flip kit but purchased form Summit Racing. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/djm-fk1012-5
I also was running dropped leafs like you but made the change to go lower and soften the ride a bit. I did need to install a c-notch kit too. Save yourself some time and in my case, money, and do both flip and notch kits at the same time. The DJM rep told me I wouldn't need the notch kit but that was incorrect. The axle was about 1" from the frame after flip kit was installed and would bottom out on any bump. Got the c-notch kit from CPP and all is well now.

Re: 1967-1972 Leaf Spring Flip Kit Question

I did not. I used KYB drop shocks with the drop leafs and am still using them with the flip kit. But I need to get even shorter rear shocks to get the best ride. It's not bad now but believe it could be better with shocks that were a little more vertical than what I currently have.

Rear suspension specs are in this thread. My guess is the flip kit gave me a 6" drop. Tire/wheel are 275/60/15 on 15x10 wheels. If that doesn't answer your question, let me know.

The 4" drop leafs I WAS running were from GMC Paul's. I'm not running them anymore, but running stock leafs with a flip kit.
